Understanding Botulinum Toxin (Botox) Injections

Botox is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles that cause wrinkles. There are several brands of botulinum toxin that are used cosmetically. They work by blocking certain chemical signals from nerves to the injected muscles, temporarily relaxing the facial muscles that cause wrinkles.

The effect of these injections in reducing angry and unwanted facial motions gives a fresh, rested, and rejuvenated look. It typically takes 3 to 5 days for the effects of Botox to begin, while its full effect is usually noted 14 days after treatment. The effects then gradually wear off over 3 to 4 months.
